Rewind: Fortune Arterial

I'm still swamped, and I'm having computer problems on top of that, but the show most go on! I'm using my old backup computer right now. Normally, I don't use the internet on this, but I decided to make an exception.
The main girl, Erika, in episode 7. She's a vampire. The main character is human.

I watched Fortune Arterial three years ago, during my vampire anime phase. Halfway through, I wrote the post "First Half of Fortune Arterial." While I enjoyed it well enough, there wasn't as much about the vampires as I hoped in the first half. It picked up more in the second half and even had some action. Still, I decided it was a mediocre harem anime with fangs. I gave it 3/5 stars, which means I probably wouldn't give it more than 2.5/5 now. I used to be quite generous in my ratings.

With that, I'm off to do homework.

  1. Japan produces some of the best action vampire anime. But, I confess that watching so many of these shows made me crave the traditional Gothic horror setting when I found Fortune Arterial. Fortune Arterial seemed more like a high school harem anime than a horror anime.

Fortunately, there are also vampire anime like Shiki, which exudes the mood of Gothic horror better than any anime I've seen since Ghost Hunt. I like to think of Shiki like a post-modern cross between Dracula and Beowulf.

    1. I had a lot of fun watching Blood+ a couple of years ago. That was the kind of mood I was in when I stumbled across this. Fortune Arterial is definitely not in the horror vein!

I still need to give Shiki another go, maybe this summer, when I have the time and patience. Last time I tried it, I wasn't patient enough, and the first episode was very slow paced. I also need to read Dracula... and I think I have parts of the Old English Beowulf on CD for my Nature and Structure of the English Language class. Sounds like I have some interesting summer evenings ahead of me.
